About Taylor

In July 2001 at the age of  ten and a half  Taylor Mizell was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma - Primitive Neuroectodermal Tumor (PNET).  An  inoperable solid tumor located near his aorta and invading the left pulmonary artery.  We had no idea about the journey we were about to begin.  For the next  four and a half years our lives were like a roller coaster.  Some days up, some days down. We learned to live one day at a time and never take it for granted.  The first year Taylor endured 17 rounds of inpatient chemotherapy and 37 rounds of radiation. He was cancer free for 18 months and in May 2004 a lung biopsy revealed that Taylor had relapsed. The life we once knew had been turned upside down again.

In all, Taylor underwent 45 rounds of chemotherapy (12 different chemotherapy drugs) and 44 rounds of radiation.  He had 3 surgeries, 2 lung biopsies and a total of 68 blood transfusions.  On February 14, 2006, surrounded by his family, the Lord called Taylor home.  As hard as it was to let Taylor go, we knew that he was now healed. Cancer free.

Our lives changed forever that day,  our family will never be the same.  Life without Taylor is a daily struggle. We go on by remembering how Taylor lived his life, never complaining, but living each day to the fullest.  He never let cancer or chemo keep him down for long.  Taylor loved spending time with his family and friends. He just wanted to be normal like everyone else.  Taylor had a passion for hunting, riding his four-wheeler, paintballing, the outdoors and he  loved Alabama football.  Taylor inspired so many with his positive attitude and determination.

Throughout Taylor’s illness we were blessed with family and friends continually taking care of us.  We were able to focus all our time on caring for Taylor.  So we want to pay it forward, give back so other families will have the same chance to focus solely on their child.  Taylor always thought of others and never thought he deserved all he received.  The logo for this foundation is Taylors’ actual handprints. Even though he looks down on us from Heaven now, he will always be our inspiration in helping other families and touching lives forever.
